St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Set; Annual Parade starts Friday at 11a

The annual St. Patrick Cathedral School St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Friday, March 17, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

This year, Bishop Mark Seitz will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. He will be riding atop the El Paso Catholic Schools’ award-winning Thanksgiving Day float that depicts a replica of the St. Patrick Cathedral.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Cathedral Church, which was dedicated on November 29, 1917, and is the mother church for the diocese and bears the name of its patron saint: St. Patrick.

Aside from the entire student body at St. Patrick Cathedral School participating in the parade, other Catholic schools from El Paso will also take part, along with dignitaries from the El Paso Catholic Diocese, mascots from local El Paso businesses and organizations and a bagpipe band.

Bishop Seitz will also celebrate Mass for the patron saint at 9:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Cathedral, located right next to the school.

The parade will begin at the corner of Stanton St. and Rio Grande Ave. and will then travel east on Rio Grande, north on Octavia St., west on Arizona Ave. and end at Arizona and Stanton.
