Jack and I had the absolute treat of interviewing Kai Greene. Leslie Kai Greene, known professionally as Kai Greene or Kai L. Greene, is an American IFBB professional bodybuilder, personal trainer, artist, and actor. A little fact you won’t find in his bio is…. He is genuinely a really nice guy.
**Full disclosure, this interview was conducted via phone and therefore the audio quality is that of a phone conversation**
Kai’s pro debut was the IFBB New York Pro in 2005. He has competed in the Arnold Classic, winning it 2009, 2010, and 2016. He came in 2nd place at the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Mr. Olympia competitions. He has often compared his bodybuilding to artwork. Kai said “As a professional bodybuilder, I’m a master sculptor. The art show made me realize that I’ve always been an artist: My medium the human physique. My life is what I make it, just like the art I’ve produced on canvas and on stage. This art show makes this statement. I’m celebrating some personal accomplishments and my own artistic expression.”
Kai is a self-taught artist. The artwork mentioned by him above is a series of paintings on large canvas. Most of the pieces were completed during his preparations for the IFBB NY Pro. The rest were completed in the middle of his Mr. Olympia prep. Not only does Kai work in paint, he also created the concept and wrote the comic book Chronicles of King Kai. He has promised a 120+ page graphic novel will be coming out in 2018.
Greene worked with director Mike Pulcinella in 2009 on a documentary called Overkill. It documented the preparation for his first appearance at the Mr. Olympia competition in 2009. The very next year he teamed up Pulcinella again to film the sequel Redemption. This documentary focused on his training and philosophies for the 2010 Arnold Classic. Kai is also featured in the 2013 film Generation Iron, detailing the lead up to and events of the 2012 Mr. Olympia competition. He was also featured in the film’s sequel, Generation Iron 2.
Kai has on screen presence and magnetism. It was only a matter of time before he started appearing in TV series and movie credits. If you watched the much anticipated Stranger Things 2 on Netflix, you saw him portraying the character Funshine. This character is one of Kali’s (Number 8) gang. You will also see him in the movie Crazy Fist due to come out some time in 2018.
With Kai’s hard work, dedication, determination, and natural in-born abilities we expect him to take over the acting world very soon. We wish him good fortune and look forward to seeing him in many more projects, in any of his chosen pursuits.
