Sun Ridge Middle hosts Museum’s MiniDigie through November

Students at Sun Ridge Middle School have a fun, new way of learning about El Paso’s past and present with the portable Mini Digital Information Gateway in El Paso (DIGIE).

Sun Ridge is the first campus in the Socorro Independent School District to house the portable 7’ long, 6.5’ high and 2.5’ deep, touch-sensitive TV screen, which holds a collection of historic images and videos of El Paso.

Mini Digie“This is a great opportunity to offer our students,” said Ignacio Estorga, Sun Ridge principal. “This device gives students a sense of reality when it comes to history, and allows them to explore it in a different way than ever before.”

Students and teachers alike said they are excited to explore El Paso’s history digitally with the new tool.

“Our teachers can’t wait to bring their classes down to the library so they can use the wall,” said Gabriel Aragon, art teacher and project organizer. “This digital wall gives students the opportunity to learn about El Paso and its history and the gateways of how we are progressing through technology.”

Kayla Cline, an eighth-grade student at Sun Ridge, said she enjoyed using the Mini DIGIE because it allowed her to view history in a different way. “It’s a good experience for us,” Cline said. “I was surprised to see how much history there is in El Paso. I didn’t know about all of this until now.”
