Walter Welsh was born and raised in a small town where he grew up around sports, cars, and motorcycles.
He always had a passion for movies, science fiction and art. He went from basketball coach to college football athlete to competitive bodybuilding to portrait painting … and now to special effects.
He thinks he has finally found what he loves by creating monsters and painting works of art that come to life. He is a two time runner-up on the popular SyFy show “Face Off” (seasons 10 and 13). Walter’s special effects make ups have been some of the best on the show each time he was a contestant.
We were able to get Walter to tell us about how his past led him to his current career as a special effects artist. He tells us how it was working those long hours on Face Off that were edited down to mere minutes for the show.

We had the privilege of speaking with Cas Anvar via phone about his roles in SyFy’s “The Expanse” and FX’s “The Strain”.
Cas Anvar, whose career has skyrocketed in the past year with a starring role on SyFy Network’s hit new #1 series The Expanse and a choice role in the Oscar nominated feature, ROOM, is on a career trajectory most actors dream of.
Halfway through filming the second season of Alcon Entertainment’s flagship show, his role of the galaxy’s top pilot, ‘Alex Kamal,’ has been expanded on the network’s most expensive original show in the history of SyFy earning him star status in an ensemble which includes Thomas Jane, Shohreh Agadashloo, Steven Strait, Wes Chatham and Dominique Tipper.
The popular series has just begun shooting season 3 which is expected to premiere on SyFy late 2017-early 2018..
Cas returns on the fourth and final season of FX’s critically lauded, The Strain, which currently airs on Sundays at 10PM night and premiered on July 16th to phenomenal numbers. Cas’ recurring role of “Sanjay Desai,” an opportunistic young businessman eager to place himself in a protected position amidst the chaos of the predominant story line of the inhabitants rapidly falling to an evil epidemic.
The Strain hails from showrunner/executive producer/writer Carlton Cuse, along with co-creators/executive producers/writers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Gary Ungar, J. Miles Dale, Bradley Thompson, David Weddle and Regina Corrado serve as executive producers. FX Productions is the studio. Few know the series is shot on the same soundstage at The Expanse (when the SyFy show is on hiatus).
The Canadian-born actor and voice-over star who graduated from Montreal’s prestigious National Theatre School (Canada’s Julliard) first came to popular attention for his portrayal of Kambiz Foroohar in the Cruise/Wagner film Shattered Glass, nominated for 4 Spirit Awards and a Golden Globe.
Cas’ versatility on the big screen ranges from roles opposite Ben Affleck in the Oscar winning feature film Argo (garnering a SAG “Outstanding Performance” Award), Jake Gyllenhaal in the Sci-Fi adventure Source Code, John Cusak in the suspense thriller The Factory, and co-starring in Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal opposite Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta Jones and Stanley Tucci.
Guest TV appearances include CBS’ hit NCIS: LA and Intelligence, USA network’s In Plain Sight, TNT’s Leverage, Fox’s 24, ABC’s Castle, co-hosting PBS 2015 Christmas special to resounding critical acclaim and as the lead character in SyFy’s 2015 series, Olympus. He is a favorite on the talk show circuit for his exceptional anecdotes and impeccable delivery.
An accomplished stage actor, Anvar has played countless leading roles in Shakespeare’s most famous plays. Cas, highly respected as the Founding Artistic Director for over 18 years of the acclaimed Shakespeare-in-the-Park touring company – Montreal-based Repercussion Theatre – continues to support their work with frequent visits.
The fluently trilingual (English, French and Farsi) Anvar credits part of his wide-ranging creativity to his exotic cultural and spiritual heritage. He splits his time between Toronto and Los Angeles.
