This year’s 2016 El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Music Festival promises to be the best yet with incredible moments, including the Great Pablo Casals Cello in El Paso, 10th Anniversary Collaborations, a Grammy Award winning Composer’s composition for Artistic Director and World Renowned Cellist Zuill Bailey and an evening of Tango with the Quint Quintet from Argentina and Two-Time Grammy nominated violinist Philippe Quint.
The vision of El Paso Pro-Musica Artistic Director Zuill Bailey is to make the Chamber Music Organization accessible to all. The 2016 Chamber Music Festival seeks to accomplish the goal of insuring that the finest artists in the world not only perform in the region but engage with students in the classroom throughout the region.
The Festival is set from January 7-29. The 2016 Chamber Music Festival celebrates two amazing milestones in El Paso. El Paso Pro-Musica and the El Paso Museum of Art have worked together for 10 years by presenting “Bach’s Lunch,” a free noon Concert every Thursday during the Festival.
The hour long “informances” give audiences a look at the artists, their music and it’s a great opportunity for music lovers to tour the El Paso Museum of Art. “Bach’s Lunch,” has been sponsored by United Bank of El Paso Del Norte for the last 10 years.
Another milestone during this Festival is the 10th Anniversary collaboration with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
Each Festival, Special Festival Artists perform as the Guest Artists for Symphony Concerts. This year, Grammy Award winning Composer Michael Daugherty has composed a Special Cello Concerto specifically for Zuill Bailey, called, “Tales of Hemingway.”
This is a look at Hemingway’s greatest literary masterpieces through music. The special premiere of this Concerto will take place in El Paso.
Some incredible highlights and “firsts” for the Festival include The Tempest Trio, three of finest musicians in the world including pianist Alon Goldstein, Violinist Ilya Kaler and Cellist Amit Peled, who will perform on the Cello used by the Great Cellist Pablo Casals.
Week Two will feature the incomparable cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, with Pianist Shai Wosner and a special concert with the only Organist to ever win a Grammy, Paul Jacobs.
Artistic Director and World Renowned Cellist Zuill Bailey will be performing in two special concerts… One in Las Cruces and the other in El Paso and will be performing his favorite works of Bach and others as a tribute to his #1 Classical Chart Topping CD.
Week Three will feature the collaboration with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and ending the Festival on an amazingly Energetic Note with the Quint Quintet and an Evening of Tango, in special surroundings at the El Adobe Recording Studio. This is a Special EPPM 100- Event with Food and Music and the Group will be recording this unforgettable Concert. They will also perform in Las Cruces.
This year’s Festival will also include Master Classes for students of UTEP’s Department of Music with all of the artists. They will work with the students on their individual repertoire and give them insight into careers in music in the 21st Century.
Outreach will continue at hospitals, schools senior center and in locations throughout the region.
