Texas House to Hold Agriculture Committee Hearing in El Paso

The Texas House Agriculture & Livestock Committee is set to hold a hearing in El Paso next week, to discuss the identification of methods for the early detection of exotic invasive organisms that could threaten agricultural crops such as cotton.

This $120 billion dollar industry, including the food and fiber sectors and agricultural receipts, is a crucial part of Texas’ and El Paso’s economies. The greater El Paso area accounts for half of the pecan crop in Texas, and El Paso County alone is expected to produce 20 million pounds of pima cotton during this season.

“I am excited that Chairman (Tracy) King and my fellow committee members will be visiting House District 75,” Rep. González said. “This hearing will be a great opportunity for the El Paso community to learn more about the significant contributions of the agricultural industry to our regional growth and development.”

Community members are invited to attend the hearing.
