UTEP Receives Grant Extension from Criminal Justice Division for CARE Program

The University of Texas at El Paso has received a two-year grant extension in the amount of $931,769 from the Texas Office of the Governor to continue supporting and serving UTEP students who are crime victims.

The Campus Advocacy, Resources and Education (CARE) office provides a wide range of assistance to UTEP students, staff and faculty members who have been impacted by any crime.

“We are excited to continue the work Chief Clifton Walsh and Sandy Vazquez began in 2017 and to support the Division of Student Affairs’ student support work and efforts through education, advocacy and services to our students,” Hernandez said.

“This project will ensure student victims of crime continue to receive information, services and support needed to assist with their recovery by empowering them to succeed in their goals and graduate, UTEP Officials said.

“In addition, it will enhance educational programs for the campus community.”

The grant’s co-principal Investigators are Arely Hernandez, director of campus advocacy, resources and education (CARE) and Charlie Gibbens, Ed.D., assistant vice president for student support.

CARE also works in partnership with campus departments and community agencies to create engaging programs to educate the campus community about the role each of us play in ending interpersonal violence on our campus.
