SISD Emergency Operations Plan Manager Recognized by Texas School Safety Center

Ismael Castro, emergency operations plan (EOP) manager for the Socorro Independent School District, has been featured in the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) Spotlight Program for his outstanding safety efforts and practices.

“I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to support and train teachers, school administrators, staff members, and district leadership in the implementation of the district emergency operations plan,” Castro said. “Planning as a team is an important aspect of keeping all SISD students and staff safe, and prepared for any situation that may arise in our schools.”

Castro is one of six educators across the state to be recognized by the TxSSC Spotlight Program, which recognizes and promotes schools, districts, and individuals that foster education and learning through safe and secure campuses.

TxSSC highlights Castro’s commitment to student and staff safety and his efforts to raise awareness on emergency planning and preparedness across SISD.

“His number one priority is to ensure that all stakeholders are trained in emergency operations, and he has gone above and beyond to make sure his district has the latest information on safety,” according to the TxSSC article.

In his five years as EOP manager, Castro has implemented training programs for students and staff at all 48 SISD campuses.

He conducts frequent emergency drills and practices at every campus and departments, and attends city and state level meetings to collaborate and learn new strategies he can implement in SISD.

Most recently, he organized safety summits to inform SISD stakeholders about district safety procedures and its emergency operations plan.

“We’ve seen major changes on how we conduct emergency drills and in their frequency,” Castro said. “We have full scale exercises that include all of our first responders. The great collaboration with external stakeholders allow us to receive feedback on training and responses. We do everything we can to Keep SISD Safe.”
