El Paso’s Film Salon partners with Alamo Drafthouse

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo is pleased to announce a new partnership in the El Paso Community: The Film Salon, which has previously screened films at Trinity-First United Methodist Church, will begin monthly screenings at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo on July 2, 2016 with a screening of the Academy Award winning film, The Treasure of Sierra Madre (1948).

The Film Salon is a monthly screening series devoted to the celebration of classic and important films and has met monthly at Trinity-First United Methodist Church since May of 2002.

For more than 14 years The Film Salon has presented screening programs with introductory remarks and post-screening discussions.  Begun in 2002 by Charles Horak, The Film Salon has cultivated a discerning audience of cinephiles and those looking to expand their awareness of cinema history.

Horak will continue to curate The Film Salon’s programs and provide commentary before and after each film.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with our new host Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.  Alamo has a deep and abiding love of all types of cinema and has a fanatical approach to creating the best communal film-watching experience possible. I think it’s the perfect and logical next step in The Film Salon’s evolution and we’re excited to build upon our history and expand our audience,” stated The Film Salon’s director, Charles Horak.

“Of course we love movies, but we’re also incredibly passionate about connecting with local communities. There isn’t a better way to combine the two than working with The Film Salon, an organization that has been sharing some of our favorite films with El Paso for more than a decade,” said Robert Saucedo, Programming Director for Triple Tap Ventures LLC, the owner and operator of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in El Paso, Houston, and Lubbock.

13413622_146670432417696_1962818402316096323_nHorak has just launched a new series at The Film Salon titled Tough Enough: The Films of Humphrey Bogart and John Huston which will explore some of the iconic films starring one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and one of its finest directors.

The Film Salon will meet on the first Saturday of each month at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo beginning with a screening on July 2, 2016 at 7 p.m. of the Academy Award winning film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948).

Tickets for this and future screenings will be $3 and can be purchased at Drafthouse.com/El-Paso.

Future screenings include The African Queen on August 6, 2016 and Key Largo on September 3, 2016.

The Film Salon’s Charles Horak concluded, “There is only upside to this new partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Our tight-knit community of cinephiles gets to expand its ranks, enjoy a larger screen and better seats, and partake from Alamo’s tremendous food and drink menu.

To paraphrase Bogart: it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
