Earlier this year, the Texas Historical Commission produced a short video on the life of Private Marcelino Serna, the highest decorated WWI veteran from Texas, for its World War I: Texas and the Great War mobile tour.
In 2016, a law authored by U.S. Representative Will Hurd officially named the Tornillo Port of Entry in El Paso County after Pvt. Serna for his heroism and the countless Hispanic-Americans that have served our country.
Marcelino Serna, was a Mexican-born immigrant, who settled in El Paso. Pvt Serna fought in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive—a major effort in the final Allied push— and received international medals for his acts of valor.
