Streetcar’s Overhead Wire Installation Underway on Uptown Loop

Even with one trolley already on the rails, Crews with Paso del Norte Trackworks continue to install the infrastructure for the streetcar lines.

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists should expect intermittent lane and sidewalk closures along Stanton Street, Oregon Street, Glory Road and Baltimore Drive over the next month as crews complete overhead wire installation for the El Paso Streetcar Project on the Uptown Loop.

Installation on the uptown loop will begin on Stanton Street and Oregon Street south of Crosby Avenue. When work is completed there, crews will move north of Crosby, including work on Glory Road and Baltimore Drive.

This work will require minimal lane closures usually lasting only a few hours each and is scheduled to be completed in mid-May

Officials with the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority remind residents that overhead wires, which will power the streetcars, carry 650 DC volts and should always be considered to be energized.

Overhead wires have already been installed on the Downtown Loop including Franklin Avenue, Kansas Street, Father Rahm Avenue and Santa Fe Street.
