Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Ultimate Spider-Man.
The premise is a scientific experiment gone wrong creates a rift between dimensions. This allows Spider characters from those dimensions to cross-over to the Miles Morales Ultimate Universe. It’s a good thing because it is gonna take all of them to fix the problem before it destroys all the multiverse.
The animation style used for Into the Spider-verse is a unique combination of the in-house computer animation of Sony Pictures Imageworks and traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques.
The trailer gives us a glimpse into what appears to be the Spider-man movie we deserve. We will see if it lives up to it’s promise when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits the big screen on December 14, 2018.
Ultimate Spider-man was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sarah Pichelli. Miles Morales first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 following the death of Peter Parker. Miles is from the Ultimate Marvel continuity, which was separate from the mainstream Marvel Universe.
Marvel ended the Ultimate Universe in 2015 and Miles Morales is one of the characters that made the transition to the mainstream Marvel continuity.
Miles was bitten by a spider genetically engineered by Norman Osborn who was attempting to duplicate Spider-man’s abilities. Miles gained abilities similar to the original Spider-Man. His spider-sense is not as strong. It only warns him of immediate danger. Miles has two additional abilities; he is able to camouflage himself and he has a venom strike that paralyzes almost anyone with just a touch.
Into the Spider-verse sees Miles crossing into parallel dimensions to team up with the Spider-Men of those dimensions to stop a threat to all reality. The Spider-verse concept originated in the comic books. It has also been adapted into the third/fourth seasons of Ultimate Spider-Man (2012).
They want the movie to feel like you are inside a comic book. CGI was combined with comic book techniques to make it appear to be created by hand. Judging from the trailer, they succeeded.
We will be watching this in theaters on December 14th. Miles Morales is a great Marvel character and it’s about time he sees some of the limelight. Are you excited to see Into the Spider-verse? What alternate version of Spider-man are you hoping to see in the movie? Let us know in the comments.
