UTEP Nursing Faculty Named NLN Academy of Nursing Education Fellows

UTEP School of Nursing faculty members Leslie K. Robbins, Ph.D., and Diane B. Monsivais, Ph.D., have been selected for the 12th class of fellows to be inducted into the National League for Nursing’s (NLN) prestigious Academy of Nursing Education.

They are two of 14 distinguished nurse educators selected for this honor in 2018.

Robbins is an associate professor and assistant dean of graduate education in the School of Nursing. As a member of the UTEP faculty since 2009, Robbins served as the director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program from 2010-14.

Before UTEP, Robbins was the associate director for graduate studies at New Mexico State University and served as director of nursing and associate dean for other nursing programs. She is a board certified adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner, and adult psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialist.

Robbins holds the Orville E. Egbert Endowed Chair in Nursing and Health Sciences and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

She has had numerous peer-reviewed publications and has presented at national and international professional conferences. Robbins’ 40-year career in nursing and academia was recognized with the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

Monsivais is director of the Master of Science in Nursing program for Nursing Education. She joined UTEP in 1998 as a clinical instructor and has since served as an assistant professor and associate professor. She is credentialed as a Certified Nurse Educator by the NLN.

Her research interests include educational issues in nursing and other health care professions. Monsivais has published numerous research articles and abstracts and presented at local, state and national conferences over the past 25 years.

In 2015, Monsivais was awarded the Wakefield Endowed Professorship in Health Sciences.

The Academy of Nursing Education fellows are selected based on their contributions to innovative teaching and/or learning strategies; nursing education research; faculty development activities; academic leadership; promotion of public policy that advances nursing education; and/or collaborative educational, practice, or community partnerships.

The induction ceremony will take place at the NLN Honors Convocation on September 14 in Chicago during the 2018 NLN Education Summit.
