UTEP Women’s Track and Field Finishes in Top 10 Percent for APR

The UTEP women’s track and field program was honored by the NCAA on Wednesday by earning a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 1,000 to rank inside the top 10 percent of all women’s track and field programs in the country.

“Our coaching staff and all team members are very aware of the importance of the academic side of being a student-athlete and how it contributes to a team’s success,“ head coach Mika Laaksonen said. “It is an outstanding achievement to be ranked inside the top 10 percent nationally for Division I programs.

“To be honored with a perfect multi-year team APR score, which the NCAA utilizes to measure a team’s academic success is a tremendous accomplishment. I could not be more proud of our hardworking student-athletes, the Miner Athlete Academic Center, our coaches and supporting staff for allowing us to accomplish something like this.”

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. This year’s honorees include the last four academic years (2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15). The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic progress success semester by semester over the last four years.

The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the process and provides a great guide to a program’s academic success.
