Wet ‘N’ Wild announces updates for park’s opening, provides information on new ride

For the first time in 42 years, Wet ‘N’ Wild Water World will not be welcoming thousands of people to kick off the unofficial start of summer this Memorial Day Weekend.

“Although amusement parks and water parks were not included in Governor Abbott’s official list for phase 2 of reopening, Wet ‘N’ Wild’s staff has been busier than ever preparing for the day they can welcome back a limited number of guests with both new COVID-19 safety procedures in place, and a new family thrill ride,” said Chandra Edwards-Cottingham, President and one of the family owners of Wet ‘N’ Wild.

Construction work continues on the park’s largest attraction yet. Steel supports tower in the sky, waiting for the colorful, twisting and turning slide sections to be lifted into place this Friday May 22nd.

Wet ‘N’ Wild has been coordinating with other water parks around Texas, following published CDC and State of Texas guidelines, and consulting with the World Waterpark Association on developing safe strategies for opening operations.

For Wet ‘N’ Wild, this will include a reduced daily capacity of 25% or less with new online admissions management, physical distancing on rides and in pools, increased sanitation around the park, and a new table reservation system to distance picnic areas.

While the park waits for more announcements, there is reassurance from the CDC’s Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch that “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs removes or inactivates the virus that causes COVID-19.”

“Being outdoors in the fresh air and abundant sunshine is a great way to spend the holiday weekend, and though we can’t be open yet, we are looking forward to offering that classic summer experience hopefully very soon,” Edwards-Cottingham said.

“Wet ‘N’ Wild looks forward to opening their doors for summer 2020 when local, state and CDC guidelines deem it safe,” she added.

Season passes are still on sale for last year’s price of $49.99+tax online at wetwild.com. Call (915) 886-2222 or click here for more information on attractions, birthday parties, VIP Suites, reserved parking, and cabana rentals.
