Workforce Solutions Borderplex, in conjunction with the Texas Workforce Commission, will be hosting a statewide job fair geared for veterans with 112 confirmed employers at the Ft. Bliss Military Post, Centennial Conference Center on Thursday, November 12, 2015.
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony to include state, local and military representatives welcoming veterans to this career transition opportunity. The opening ceremony will take place from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and will include a presentation of the colors and a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony.
Special guest speakers include, U.S. Congressman, Beto O’Rourke, Texas Workforce Commission, Patricia Gonzalez, Workforce Solutions Borderplex Board Chair, Bertha Gallardo, Texas Veterans Commission, Bruce Biegel and other key stakeholders.
“Veterans are a priority population for the Texas Workforce Commission. We continue to see an emphasis from our business partners on veteran preference hiring,” said Joyce Wilson, CEO of Workforce Solutions Borderplex, “this growing demand reinforces the need for these targeted job fairs for veterans, transitioning active military personnel and their families.”
Wilson adds, “As our local economy continues to expand, new and existing businesses are seeking qualified staff to join their ranks. The great training and experience our veterans and transitioning military personnel receive can easily transition to the civilian sector. Each year we receive more interest from the private sector, as can be witnessed with over 112 businesses participating in this year’s event”
The targeted industries for the Hiring Red, White and You! Job Fair are Information Technology (I.T.), Government and Healthcare. The industries targeted align closely with the type of jobs service men and women transition into their civilian lives. These industries are also targeted due to the high hiring trends during the current season.
There are about 30 government agencies seeking multiple qualified job seekers and about 17 employers in healthcare industries. There are several I.T.-related positions in various industries as well. Over 600 jobs have been reported by employers so far.
The event is free and open to all job seekers, including non-veterans. The job fair begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.
