Team SISD will be celebrating the National Education Association’s annual Read Across America with special videos and numerous events at schools across the district.
The nationwide event, held from Feb. 29 to March 4, celebrates reading in honor of the late children’s book author, Theodor Seuss Geisel— better known to most as Dr. Seuss, whose birthday is March 2.
The week features many events across SISD, including special videos of district leaders and community partners reading their favorite books for students and teachers to enjoy in the classroom. The videos include Superintendent José Espinoza, KVIA-Channel 7’s Stephanie Valle and SISD board members.
A districtwide decorating contest is also part of the festivities. Schools are challenged to transform rooms and hallways using a Dr. Seuss theme. The makeover is chronicled by video or through photos and thirteen winners are chosen based on their multimedia projects. Various prizes are awarded to the winners.
“It’s important to read, read, read, on a daily basis, on the weekends, holidays and during celebrations like this,” Espinoza said. “Read Across America is a fun way to introduce children to the world of books and the love of reading.”
