El Paso and Southern New Mexico area residents are encouraged to get out of the cold weather and warm up their taste buds at the annual “Tequila & Margarita at The Park” this weekend.
The festival returns to Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino this Saturday, January 25, from 6 to 11 p.m.
Racetrack officals share that the festival celebrates tequila, at a time when the beverage is seeing tremendous growth in popularity throughout the United States and around the world. This is especially true of premium quality brands, many of which will be available for tasting on Saturday.
“If you want to try some really high-end, top-shelf tequilas that you might not normally purchase, this is your chance,” said Ethan Linder, director of marketing for Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. “This event is the largest of its kind in the Borderland region, with over 60 different tequilas to sample from, as well as a wide variety of margaritas.”
According to Beverage Industry Magazine, tequila is the fastest growing drink in the spirits category, with sales in the US up nearly 13 percent in 2018.
In addition to the extensive selection of tequilas and margaritas, attendees will be able to enjoy live music performed by some of El Paso’s favorite local bands, including:
Unlike other tasting events in the area, admission and parking are free. However, guests are encouraged to drink responsibly and to use taxi cabs, ride-sharing services such as Uber or Lyft, or to have a designated driver.
Beverage sampling will cost $20 for 10 tickets, which also includes a souvenir shot glass with every 10 tickets purchased. Sample tickets will be sold at the door.
