High School Football Returns to the Sun City

The Autumn tradition of Texas High School Football returns to the Sun City tonight

In a year of ups and downs with the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unsure if this night was even going to take place. We saw the spring season come to a complete stop, leaving those athletes and coaches with nothing but “what if’s?”

There has always been hope that there would be a High School football season but that quickly turned to uncertainty as the Covid-19 numbers started to rise throughout the state and especially here in the Sun City.

As the season rolled near, we saw new regulations put in place throughout the state which turned fears into reality.

In what is to be the celebration of the 100th year anniversary of the UIL Football in Texas, UIL, TEA and the School district were now  scrambling and trying to figure out how to keep everyone safe, how classroom instruction was going to look, and then how to host the actual games.

To be fair, it’s a very daunting task for all those involved, and they had to make those tough decision that will not please everybody.

I do want to applaud them, because it already takes so much planning and execution to go through every school year, and now add this Pandemic to the mix. It has arrived and we are here, opening night of High School football in El Paso.

Kicking off the 100th year of UIL football Celebration night will be three games in the Sun City for Week One.
