‘The Telling Project’ coming to El Paso

‘The Telling Project’ coming to El Paso

Veterans and their families have a unique chance to tell their communities about what it means to serve.

The acclaimed Telling Project gives veterans and/or family members the chance to go on stage to speak about how service affected their lives and attitudes. The performance-based project has been a success in at least 35 cities and 17 states and is now coming to El Paso.

KCOS, El Paso’s PBS station, has partnered with the Telling Project and the Bob Woodruff Foundation to bring them to El Paso.

Among our goals are to ease veterans’ transitions, to allow communities to benefit from the skills and experience the vets bring home, and to foster a level of understanding that will deepen our community’s connection to its veterans, to itself, and to its place in the nation and the world.

To register for Telling: El Paso email info@thetellingproject.org. The deadline to register is December 7, 2015, first come, first served.

Those who register will be considered as interviewees for Telling: El Paso.  Interview times are available December 10 – 12, 2015.  Interviewing does not mean a required performance, but many veterans find the process of simply telling their story to be empowering. Participants need no performance experience- just willingness and enthusiasm.

Telling Project and local professional staff will work with you to shape your story, then transition it from a story to a performance.

Interviews will be followed by training and rehearsals before the staging of six performances across El Paso in May 2016.  All stage performances will be free and open to the public and will include an opportunity for the audience to interact with the performers.  One performance will also be filmed and later aired on KCOS.
