Marvel introduced a new character in Thanos #16, the Cosmic Ghost Rider. It is revealed later in that issue that the Cosmic Ghost Rider is none other than… Frank Castle (Punisher). If that isn’t twisted enough for you, the story of how he became the right hand of Thanos is very warped.
Thanos came to Earth and is in the midst of easily defeating all the heroes. During this battle, Frank thinks “I would give anything to punish that purple sonofabitch.” The old saying “Be careful what you wish for” applies here as Mephisto heard this thought.
Mephisto makes Frank his newest Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. There is one small problem though. Thanos left no survivors. There is no one to punish or even talk to. Cosmic Ghost Rider is left with his own thoughts causing him to lose a bit of his sanity.
After a millennia passes, Galactus appears on Earth in rough shape and on the run from Thanos. Since Cosmic Ghost Rider wants revenge on Thanos himself, he agrees to become a herald of Galactus. He is granted the power cosmic from Galactus.
The pair hunt down Thanos only to have him behead Galactus and easily defeat Cosmic Ghost Rider. Thanos sees something in Cosmic Ghost Rider and offers for him to be his right hand man. Cosmic Ghost Rider will be able to punish countless people across the cosmos.
Cosmic Ghost Rider is such a popular character he is getting his own mini-series (5 issues) with the first one hitting shelves July 4, 2018. The series will be written by Donny Cates with interior art by Dylan Burnett and cover art by Geoff Shaw. This series promises to be very interesting.
