Demetrio Jimenez, the president and co-owner of Tropicana Properties, will receive the Texas Apartment Association’s Bob Ross Independent Owner of the Year Award in Houston April 12 during the association’s annual Education Conference & Lone Star Expo.
“I am thrilled to be the recipient of this very esteemed award by my colleagues at TAA and am proud to represent the EPAA, Tropicana Properties and the El Paso community as a whole” said Demetrio Jimenez. “I share this honor with the outstanding team I am blessed to lead at Tropicana Properties, as well as my partners Bobby Bowling IV and Randy Bowling, who have provided the support and leadership that has elevated us to be the best affordable housing provider in El Paso.”
Jimenez is a member of the El Paso Apartment Association (EPAA), one of 24 local apartment associations affiliated with the Texas Apartment Association (TAA).
“As a member of the El Paso Apartment Association for over ten years, and serving as a leader on our board throughout the years including his recent Presidency, Mr. Jimenez’ energy and commitment to the multifamily industry are unmatched.” said Rick Soto, El Paso Apartment Association Executive. “This award is a recognition that is not only well-deserved but earned after so many years of leadership within our industry.”
Jimenez also serves on the TAA Executive Committee and will be TAA’s secretary in 2019-2020. He is a Housing Tax Credit Professional, a Housing Development Finance Professional and an AIA Associate.
TAA has presented this award since 2010 to an outstanding residential rental property owner who is directly involved in managing the properties owned.
Jimenez was honored for efforts at Dyer Palms and other properties in the Northeast area of El Paso, which offered programs to assist residents in moving from renting to owning homes. The properties, which are tax-credit properties with income caps for residents, not only improved occupancy significantly, but also successfully assisted residents in making the move to homeownership. Fifteen families living in properties owned by Tropicana were assisted into homeownership in 2018.
The TAA Independent Rental Owner of the Year award is named in honor of Bob Ross, who served as the fifth president of TAA and also served as president of the National Apartment Association. His family-owned and operated business, Bob Ross Realty, is still an active member of the San Antonio Apartment Association, TAA and NAA, and Ross’ son, Marc, followed in his footsteps as president of TAA and chairman of NAA.
The Texas Apartment Association is a trade association representing rental housing owners, managers and companies that supply services to the rental housing industry.
The Austin-based association has more than 11,800 members who own or manage more than 2.2 million rental housing units in Texas. TAA has 24 local affiliated associations in markets around the state.
