TTUHSC El Paso Physician Assistant Chosen for National Fellowship Program

Damaris Rosado, M.S., PA-C, a physician assistant (PA) with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, was chosen as a fellow by the PA Foundation’s 2020 Nutrition Outreach Fellowship program.

“I’m honored to represent TTUHSC El Paso as one of the 40 inaugural physician assistants chosen to be a PA Foundation Nutrition Outreach Fellow,” Rosado said. “El Paso will be a part of a positive movement that will be occurring simultaneously in communities nationwide.”

The fellows will participate in virtual trainings that prepare them to deliver nutrition education to community groups and their peers in health care. The content of the program focuses on the role of nutrition in overall health, with a special focus on prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, healthy aging and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).

Rosado added that the program will provide an opportunity to increase her knowledge in nutrition and improve nutrition awareness in El Paso. A native of the Sun City, she looks forward to sharing valuable nutrition knowledge with the community and Foster School of Medicine students to positively impact the health of El Pasoans.

“I’m proud to have been born and raised in El Paso,” Rosado said. “I left for my PA training, but always held El Paso in my heart. My goal was always to return and help improve my community.”

The goal of the fellowship is to provide a way for PAs, especially those with an interest in community leadership, to receive special training and resources on nutrition to both enhance their clinical practice and to give back to their health care peers and the community at large. The fellowship program is supported by Abbott Nutrition.

The PA Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that promotes better health and wellness by providing PAs and PA students with philanthropic opportunities and resources.
