Twelve Miners Named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The postseason awards continued rolling in for UTEP softball as it saw twelve of its athletes earn Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete plaudits as a result of their hard work in the classroom, the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) announced Thursday morning. Each athlete must earn a GPA of 3.50 or better to receive the award.

“This is a huge accomplishment for these ladies and our team and speaks volumes to their commitment to academics,” head coach T.J. Hubbard said.

“We are grateful to Heather Smith, Denise Holguin and the rest of the MAAC Staff and the assistance they provide all of our student-athletes to be champions on and off the field.”

This is preceded by two Miners being named to the C-USA All-Academic Team (Zaylie Calderon and Pate Cathey), 10 earning C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medals and 19 listed on the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll on May 10.

UTEP completed the academic year (Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters) with a cumulative 3.46 team GPA.
