Austin – UTEP’s Jonah Koech and Lilian Koech closed out the final day of competition at the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Lilian Koech competed in the women’s 1,500m, which included both collegiate and professional athletes. The junior crossed the finish line with a time of 4:25.59, earning a bronze-medal finish. She was just the second collegiate athlete to finish behind the winner and professional athlete Dana Mecke (4:13.53).
Her time ranks 16th in the nation and second in Conference USA.
Competing in the men’s mile invitational, which also included both collegiate and professional runners, was Jonah Koech. The Kenya native clocked a time of 4:01.94 to finish second overall behind professional athlete Jose Eduardo Silvestre (Mexico, 4:00.50).
The Miners will return to action on Saturday, April 7 for the Don Kirby Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. before returning to the state’s capital on Saturday, April 14.
