TxDOT, Connect10 roadwork, detours for Week of May 2nd

Crews enter May with area-wide work on I-10, as well as several other areas around town.

Officials say that work will continue next week on intelligent traffic system (ITS) components like overhead lane management system (LMS) signs, additional dynamic message signs (DMSs) and new TransVista cameras on Interstate 10 in Central El Paso.

Installation of these elements, all of which are part of the I-10 Connect Project, will require overnight freeway closures several nights next week.

Monday, May 3, from 9pm to 5am  (Click here for interactive map)

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic between Geronimo Drive and US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
  • Onramps from Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 at Geronimo Drive and Trowbridge Drive will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOUR: Take Exit 24 (Geronimo Drive), continue on Gateway West and enter I-10 at Paisano.
  • Ramp J which connects northbound US 54 to eastbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic
  • DETOUR: Take Exit 21B (I-10 West/Las Cruces/Downtown), continue on I-10. Take Exit 20 (Cotton Street), continue on Gateway West, turn left on Cotton, then turn left to enter westbound I-10.
  • The onramp from Gateway Boulevard North to Interstate 110 at Paisano Drive will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOUR: Continue on Gateway North, turn right on SH 20 (Alameda Avenue), turn left on Raynolds Street.
  • Lane closures will be in place on eastbound I-10 between US 54 and Raynolds Street and on Gateway Boulevard East between Marr Street and Raynolds Street.

Crews will be working on new LMS signs, TransVista cameras and overhead signs.

Tuesday, May 4, from 9pm to 5am  (Click here for interactive map)

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic between US 62/180 (Paisano Drive) and US 54.
  • The onramp from Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 at Paisano will be closed to all traffic
  • WESTBOUND I-10 DETOUR: Take Exit 23B (US 62/180/Paisano Drive/Chelsea Street), continue on Gateway West, re-enter I-10 at Raynolds.
  • US 54 DETOUR: Take Exit 23B (US 62/180/Paisano Drive/Chelsea Street), turn right on Chelsea, turn left on Montana, turn right on Gateway Boulevard North and enter US 54.
  • JUÁREZ DETOUR: Follow the above detour, from northbound US 54 take Exit 22B (Pershing Drive) and follow the marked detour to Juárez.

Crews will be working on new LMS signs, TransVista cameras DMSs.

Wednesday, May 5, from 9pm to 5am  (Click here for interactive map)

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic between Raynolds Street and US 54.
  • The onramp from Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 at Paisano will be closed to all traffic
  • WESTBOUND I-10 DETOUR: Take Exit 23A (Raynolds Steet), continue on Gateway West, re-enter I-10 at Raynolds.
  • US 54 DETOUR: Take Exit 23B (US 62/180/Paisano Drive/Chelsea Street), turn right on Chelsea, turn left on Montana, turn right on Gateway Boulevard North and enter US 54.
  • JUÁREZ DETOUR: Follow the above detour, from northbound US 54 take Exit 22B (Pershing Drive) and follow the marked detour to Juárez.

  • Eastbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic between Piedras Street and Loop 478 (Copia Street).
  • DETOUR: Take Exit 21 (Piedras Street), continue on Gateway Boulevard East, turn right on Copia Street, turn left on Durazno Avenue, turn left on Marr Street, turn right on Gateway East, re-enter I-10 at Raynolds.
  • Westbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane at Cotton Street.
  • The on-ramp from Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 at Cotton Street will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOUR: Enter I-10 at Newman Street.

Crews will be working on new DMSs and overhead signs.

Daytime Ramp Closures near the El Paso Zoo for landscape work

  • Monday, May 3, from 9am to 4pm: The onramp from Gateway Boulevard North to I-110 will be closed to all traffic.
  • Tuesday, May 4, through Friday, May 7, from 9am to 4pm: The onramp from Gateway Boulevard North to US 54 will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOUR: Continue on Gateway North, turn right on SH 20 (Alameda Avenue), turn left on Raynolds Street.

Nightly I-110 closures scheduled to begin during the week of May 17

Beginning during the week of May 17, crews will begin installing nearly forty overhead bridge girders as they reconstruct the overpass which will carry US 62 (Paisano Drive) over Interstate 110 immediately north of the Bridge of the Americas. To safely conduct this work, southbound I-110 leading to the bridge will close nightly for several weeks beginning next month. During these closures, southbound vehicles will not have access to the Bridge of the Americas and should consider using other ports of entry to cross from the U.S. to México.

On-Going Closures Will Continue Without Interruption

  • Ramps G and H which connects eastbound I-10 to US 54 and Juárez remains closed until further notice.
  • Ramp F-B which connects westbound I-10 to Juárez remains closed until further notice.
  • Interstate 110, the short freeway spur leading to and from the Bridge of the Americas, remains closed to northbound traffic until further notice.
  • US 62 (Paisano Drive) remains closed to traffic in both directions between San Marcial Street and Gateway Boulevard South.
  • Gateway Boulevard East remains closed to thru traffic between Loop 478 (Copia Street) and Marr Street.
  • The ramp from southbound US 54 to US 62 (Paisano Drive) remains closed until further notice.
  • Both turnarounds under US 54 at US 62 (Paisano Drive) remains closed until further notice.
  • Intermittent closures on Durazno Avenue, Rosa Avenue and Uva Street.
  • Intermittent lane closures on Gateway Boulevard East between Piedras Street and US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
  • Intermittent lane closures on Gateway Boulevard West between Boone Street and Palm Street.

Onramp and offramp closures may begin up to one hour earlier than stated times. All information is subject to change based upon weather and field conditions.

Mesa Rehabilitation Project

Continuous until further notice.

  • Mesa northbound between Castellano and Festival reduced to one lane.
  • Mesa southbound between Brentwood and Glory Road reduced to one lane.
  • Crews will be working on roadway rehabilitation.

Tuesday, May 4 through Thursday, May 6

Nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Mesa southbound between Brentwood and Baltimore complete closure.
  • Crews will be working on barrier movement and milling.

Thursday, May 6

Nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Mesa northbound between Castellano and Mesa Hills complete closure.
  • Crews will be working on barrier movement.

Bridge Maintenance Project

Monday, May 3 through Tuesday, May 4

Nightly, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  •  I-10 westbound at Geronimo bridge complete closure.
  • All traffic directed to Geronimo, Exit 28A.
  • Crews will be replacing armor joints.

Riprap Project

Monday, May 3 through Friday, May 7

  • I-10 westbound at Executive exit ramp closed.
  • Detour: I-10 westbound at Schuster exit ramp.
  • Crews will be working on concrete riprap over existing retaining walls.

Guardrail Repair Project

  • Spur 601 westbound between Sergeant Major and Airport right lane closed.

  • I-10 eastbound complete lane closure between McRae Boulevard and Lomaland Drive to include entrance ramps and exit ramps

Crews will be performing milling and paving on main lanes and ramps

Daily, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

  • Gateway Boulevard eastbound left shoulder and alternating lane closures between McRae Boulevard and Lomaland Drive to include entrance and exit ramps and turnarounds
  • Gateway Boulevard westbound left shoulder and alternating lane closures between Lomaland Drive to McRae Boulevard to include entrance and exit ramps and turnarounds

Crews will be performing electrical work, rock wall installation and removal

Monday, May 3, from 9pm to 5am

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic between Geronimo Drive and US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
