It’s going to be another very busy week around the Sun City as crews continue their work to improve the region’s transportation infrastructure.
The I-10 Connect project will continue to close southbound access to the Bridge of the Americas overnight next week, Tuesday through Thursday, from 9PM to 6AM. While crews completed hanging 36 girders earlier this week, they are making use of the third ‘contingency’ week of advertised closures to hang more than 430 deck panels.
These deck panels will support the future Paisano Drive (US 62) roadway over I-110. I-110 is the short highway spur leading from US 54 and I-10 to the midtown international bridge at the spaghetti bowl. Future overnight closures will be necessary to place concrete roadway, slip guardrail, and remove forms.
Another high-impact closure will come on either Sunday, June 6 or Sunday, June 13, to erect an overhead sign board structure near Cotton Street over the eastbound main lanes.
That work will close I-10 eastbound back at Sunland Park Drive, because there are no frontage roads east of downtown, and divert traffic to Loop 375 East, the Border West Expressway. Local traffic will be able to exit at Executive Center Boulevard, Schuster Avenue, Coles/Paisano, or US 54.
Through traffic can meet up with I-10 again at US 54, or continue to Loop 375 in east El Paso.
