Texas Department of Transportation crews in El Paso continue their work to upgrade, repair and construct the region’s roads; below is a listing of the ongoing projects around the Borderland. The links provide specifics for each project.
New overhead signs on southbound US 54, some of which include augmented messages alerting drivers they are approaching the U.S.-México Border, will be installed in anticipation of the opening of a new direct connector from southbound US 54 to the Bridge of the Americas which is being built as part of the I-10 Connect Project in Central El Paso.
While some of the new overhead signs will reference the new exit from southbound US 54 to Juárez at the Spaghetti Bowl, that exit will not open until the end of February. Motorists on southbound US 54 seeking to travel to Juárez should continue south on US 54 to Exit 20B (Interstate 110/Juárez, México) until the new direct connector ramp opens.

- DETOUR TO EASTBOUND I-10: Take Exit 21B (I-10 West/Las Cruces/Downtown), continue on westbound I-10 to Exit 20 (Cotton Street), turn left on Cotton, turn left on the eastbound I-10 onramp.
- DETOUR TO US 54 AND JUAREZ: Take Exit 21C (Montana Avenue), continue on Gateway Boulevard South, and re-enter US 54 at Yandell.
Crews will be installing new overhead signs.
Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021
9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Southbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic at Spur 601.
- DETOUR: Take Exit 22 (Fort Bliss/Pershing Drive), then take the Pershing Drive/Altura Avenue exit, continue on Gateway Boulevard South and re-enter southbound US 54 at Pershing.
- The off ramp from westbound Spur 601 to southbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic.
- DETOUR: Take Exit 20A (US 54/Alamogordo), continue on US 54, take Exit 25 (Ellerthorpe Avenue), turn left on Ellerthorpe, turn left on Gateway Boulevard South, enter southbound US 54.
Crews will be installing new overhead signs.
Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021

- The collector/distributor (C/D) lanes on southbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic at Pershing Drive.
- DETOUR TO WESTBOUND I-10: Take Exit 21A (I-10 East/Van Horn/San Antonio), continue on eastbound I-10, Take Exit 24 (Trowbridge Drive), use the newly widened turnaround and enter westbound I-10
- NOTE: Southbound onramps between Pershing and Yandell will be closed.

Loop 375 Frontage Road Project

- South Americas Avenue (frontage road) southbound to northbound turnaround will be blocked occasionally near Union Pacific Railroad
