As we move from February to March, crews continue their work to update the highways and byways around the region.

Crews will be placing an overhead sign
The following closures will be in effect on Thursday, March 4, from 9pm to 5am:
- Southbound Interstate 110, the short freeway spur leading to the Bridge of the Americas, will be closed to all traffic between Interstate 10 and the U.S.-México Border.
- Ramp F-B which connects westbound I-10 to Juárez will be closed to all traffic.
- Ramp F-1 which connects southbound US 54 to Juárez will be closed to all traffic.
During Thursday night’s closure, all traffic bound from El Paso to Ciudad Juárez must use another port of entry such as the Zaragoza Bridge, Stanton Street Bridge or the Santa Teresa Port of Entry. At all other times, the Texas Department of Transportation is encouraging motorists to do their part to reduce congestion at the Spaghetti Bowl.
Â
While the new direct connect ramp from westbound I-10 to Juárez is now open, it’s currently handling more than its fair share of traffic because the new direct connector ramp from eastbound I-10 to Juárez is still under construction. That’s contributing to long back-ups at the Spaghetti Bowl.
Motorists travelling from I-10 to Juárez are asked to consider this alternate route if they see the new Juárez ramp is backing up:
- From westbound I-10, take Exit 22B (US 54/Alamogordo/Juárez/Fort Bliss).
- Rather than veering left to use the new Juárez ramp, veer right to northbound US 54, then use the Pershing Drive Turnaround to enter southbound US 54.
- Take Exit 21A (I-10 East/San Antonio/Juárez) and veer right to use the newly opened southbound direct connector to Juárez.
While it’s not expected to completely eliminate slow-downs at peak hours, spreading out the traffic rather than concentrating it on one ramp, motorists can help alleviate congestion.
Other important points to remember:
- There may still be delays associated with inspections at the international border.
- While it will eventually include a maximum of five southbound lanes leading to the Bridge of the Americas, right now I-110 is reduced to two lanes to accommodate construction.
- A new direct connector ramp from eastbound I-10 to Juárez at the Spaghetti Bowl is scheduled to open later this year.
- The primary goal of the I-10 Connect Project is to create new direct connections between I-10 and Loop 375 — not necessarily to reduce wait times at the Bridge of the Americas.
- The project will, however, add storage capacity for southbound motorists waiting to enter the Bridge of the Americas.
