Starting in February, community members are invited to provide feedback on recommended improvements for Mesa Street – State Highway (SH) 20 during a series of scheduled public meetings.
The Mesa Street Corridor Study encompasses 9.8 miles from Doniphan Drive to Cesar Chavez Border Highway.
These latest three meetings are the second and last series before final recommendations are made. Identical study information will be presented at each gathering. These meetings are in an open house format with maps, plan details and animations, and will be staffed by TxDOT and consultants ready to answer questions in English and Spanish.
A long list of mobility-based aspects have been studied in the planning process including crash data, driver and pedestrian safety, signalization and signage, mass transit and bike routes and forecasted traffic and travel demand. Generated recommended concepts to upgrade and improve Mesa Street are divided in phases as they relate to future transportation and development needs along the corridor through 2040.
Improvements in the plans include major intersection improvements, a pedestrian deck plaza near UTEP, bus turnouts, bypass lanes to reduce congestion, dedicated turning lanes, signal improvements and sidewalk and crosswalk upgrades.
