USL enters Phase 2 for clubs, Locomotive begin expanded training

On Tuesday, select El Paso Locomotive FC players took to the pitch for practice, one day after USL Championship Soccer officials announced that league has entered Phase II of training protocols.

“The USL Championship and League One Task Forces, in conjunction with an affirmative vote by Championship and League One Board of Governors, have implemented Phase II training protocols, effective yesterday,” officials stated via their website.

As part of the Phase II protocols, Championship and League One are now permitted to – while staying in alignment with all local and state health authority guidance:

  • Expand non-contact training taking place on outdoor fields to include up to groups of ten

  • Allow coaches to provide technical instruction

  • Open weight room facilities

  • Expand player treatment beyond rehabilitative purposes

As part of the new protocols members of Locomotive FC hit the pitch to train in larger groups, as opposed to the previous small sided groups of 4.

As announced last week, the USL Championship has set a provisional return to play date of July 11.
