After a phenomenal performance at the Conference USA Championships last weekend in Charlotte, N.C., the UTEP men’s team’s jumped to a No. 15 national rank as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The Miners earned the defending champions title after securing 24 points to take the conference title a second consecutive year. Middle Tennessee, ranked No. 26, came in second after UTEP with 36 points.
The Orange and Blue had four runners finish in the top-seven spots in the competitive 8K to earn All Conference First Team honors including: Jonah Koech, Outsanding Senior of the Meet: Cosmas Boit, Antony Kosgei, and freshman Michael Saruni.
The collective efforts from the men’s team propelled UTEP six spots in the poll from No. 21 to No. 15. The Miners have two weeks to prepare for the next level of the cross country season: the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships.
NCAA Mountain Regionals will be in Logan, Utah hosted by Utah State on Nov. 11. The Miners will put their talents to the test in order to qualify for NCAA Cross Country Championships.
