UTEP Cross Country Set to Host Annual Home Meet
The UTEP cross country team will host the Lori Fitzgerald Classic on Friday afternoon at the Chamizal Memorial National Park at 5:30 p.m. M.T.
Both the men’s and women’s race will be open to unattached athletes. The men’s race will be a 6K with one short loop and three long loops to finish, while the women’s race will be a 4K with one short loop and two long loops.
At last year’s staging, the women placed four runners in the top six to clinch the team title with a total 21 points. Winny Koech led the Miners as she crossed the line with a time of 17:57.8, followed by Linda Cheruiyot to claim sixth overall (18:23.7).
On the men’s side, Antony Kosgei set the pace for the Blue and Orange as he was first to cross the finish line, clocking a 6K time of 19:09.3. Junior Jonah Koech will compete for the second time at the Miners annual meet. Sophomore Michael Saruni will make his debut at the Lori Fitzgerald meet.
The Miners will strive to perform as well as they did last weekend at the Lobo Invitational. This will be the Miners’ only home meet of the season.
