UTEP Dinner Theatre presenting “The Who’s Tommy”

In 1996, the UTEP Dinner Theatre (then known as The Union Dinner Theatre) staged its first production of The Who’s Tommy and it was the hit of the season, now that hit is back and better than ever.

23 years later, The UTEP Dinner Theatre is bringing Tommy back with updated sound, scenery, lighting and effects that the Dinner Theatre did not have in 1996.

Night after night the show earned enthusiastic standing ovations and cheers from the audience.  That 1996 production was entered in The American College Theatre Festival where it won:

  • Critic’s Choice Award – Best Show
  • Award for Excellence in Producing and Directing
  • Award for Excellence in Costumes
  • Award for Excellence in Musical Direction
  • Award for Excellence in Choreography

Based on the iconic 1969 rock concept album, The Who’s Tommy is an exhilarating story of hope, healing and the human spirit. The story of the pinball-playing, deaf, dumb and blind boy who triumphs over his adversities has inspired, amazed and puzzled audiences for more than 50 years. This five-time Tony Award-winning musical is a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event.

Tommy features an exciting rock score including the classic songs “Pinball Wizard”, “See Me, Feel Me”, “Amazing Journey”, “Sensation”, “Acid Queen” and many more.  The Who’s Tommy is a timeless show with a cross-generational appeal that has made it a smash-hit on Broadway, the West End, and around the world.
