On this week’s “Picks Up Podcast,” UTEP’s Director of Sports Medicine Dawn Hearn, talks with Jon Teicher about how her team is working to keep the student-athletes, coaches and staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dawn Hearn is entering her 32nd year at UTEP. She began her tenure in the fall of 1988 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, and was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer in April of 1995.
At that time she was only the third female to be a Head Athletic Trainer of an FBS Athletic Training Program, and the second in charge of football. In January of 2019 she was named Director of Sports Medicine, but continues to assist with football.
She supervises seven full-time athletic trainers, two graduate assistant athletic trainers and approximately 20 student athletic trainers. She has had close to 60 students graduate under her supervision who are now working as athletic trainers.
In April 2008, Hearn was inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and in March 2014 she was inducted into the Sun City Athletic Trainer’s Hall of Fame, for her many years of service to the University and the El Paso Community.
The “Picks Up Podcast,” with special guests including Miner coaches, staff, student-athletes and alumni, takes an inside look at UTEP Athletics, offering perspectives and analysis not available anywhere else.
