UTEP Finishes 3rd at Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES – UTEP’s Women’s Golf team wrapped up the third and final round at the NM State Aggie Invitational on Wednesday with the Miners finishing in third place overall.

UTEP enjoyed its best day on the links on Wednesday after the Miners shot 295 as a team to clinch third place on the leaderboard with a three-day total of 895 (302, 298, 295; +31). New Mexico State took home the team title at this year’s event, while Utah Valley placed second just one shot ahead of the Miners.

Audrey Haddad paced the Miners throughout the tournament, finishing the final round at even par and tied for third place after shooting 216 (70, 71, 75) over the course of the three-day event.

Junior Valeria Mendizabal improved in each round of the event, including posting her best round on Wednesday with a score of 70 (-2). Overall, Mendizabal tied for fifth after shooting 2-over-par 218 (75, 73, 70) this week in Las Cruces.

Sophie Delfosse also improved her score total in the final round after shooting 74 to wrap up the event with a shot total of 230 (77, 79, 74; +14). UTEP’s Abbie Anghelescu gained one shot in the third round, finishing the week with a three-round total of 233 (80, 77, 76; +17), while Shannon O’Dwyer closed out the invitational with a score of 238 (80, 77, 81; +22).

Individually, Andrea Ostos built off a good second round where she shot 2-under, to finish the third round even par (72). For the tournament, Ostos tied for eighth with a three-round total of 219 (77, 70, 72; +3).

Other individuals competing for the Miners at this week’s Aggie Invitational included Taylor Stone, who finished at 237 (81, 76, 80; +21), and Naomi Ramirez, who shot 238 (82, 80, 76; +22) through three rounds.

UTEP returns to action on Oct. 20-22 when the Miners travel to Lakewood Ranch, Florida, to compete in the Pat Bradley Invitational, which is hosted by FIU.
