UTEP Football’s Griffin Earns Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Junior Kalaii Griffin was named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List on Thursday.

The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service,” is presented annually at the All Sports Association’s Awards Banquet in FortWalton Beach.

Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

The linebacker has accumulated 36.5 hours of community service, dedicating his time to the Child Crisis Center. Griffin also spent time helping with Project Move, running various athletic stations for youth groups in the community.

Last season, the linebacker played in 10 games, seeing action on defense and special teams. Griffin recorded 15 tackles, one sack and one quarterback hurry.
