TUCSON – The UTEP men’s golf team will play at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by the University of Arizona March 18-19.
The Miners will compete with host Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa State, New Mexico, North Texas, Oklahoma, San Diego, San Diego State, UNLV, USC, Utah, Washington State and Wyoming at the OMNI Tucson National Resort on Catalina Golf Course (par 72/7,262 yards).
The first two rounds (36 holes) will be played Monday with an 8 a.m. PT/9 MT shotgun start.
The Miners are coming off a short break as they most recently finished tied for third at the GCU Invitational March 15-16 in Phoenix. Senior Aaron Terrazas (71-71-66—208) fired a 66 in the third round and shot up 19 spots, tying for seventh at 5-under par. Teammate sophomore Oskar Ambrosius (68-68-71—208) also finished tied for seventh after penciling in a career-best 208 (54 holes).
Terrazas leads the team with a 71.3 stroke average, while Ambrosius ranks second at 72.8. Ambrosius, prior to the GCU, posted a 73.2 stroke average.
Senior Ben Getman (73-71-70—214) finished tied for 30th at the GCU Invite after firing a season-low 70 in the third round, while his score of 214 is also a season low on 54 holes played. Getman’s 70 and 214 scores also tied his career low. Getman lowered his stroke average from 76.8 to 75.5 after the GCU.
Also seeing individual success at the GCU Invite was senior Settavut Paradee (73-71-74—218), who shot a season-low 218 (54 holes), while Eduardo Gonzalez (69-75-74—218) registered a career-low 69 in the first round and a career-best score 218 on 54 holes played.
Cole Donielson competed as an individual in Phoenix. The redshirt sophomore recorded a career-low 70 in the third round for a career-best 219 on 54 holes played. Donielson lowered his stroke average from 75.8 to 74.9 after a solid outing at the GCU Invite.
Following the NIT, UTEP will play in two more tournaments before the Conference USA Championships in Texarkana, Texas April 22-25. The Miners will compete at the Bearkat Invitational April 1-2 hosted by Sam Houston State and at the Western Intercollegiate April 15-17 hosted by San Jose State.
