UTEP Graduate Students Showcase Research

Dozens of graduate research students presented their studies during the UTEP Graduate Student Research Expo.

The annual event offers graduate students the opportunity to present their original research in a local academic conference environment before they travel to a national or international academic or professional conference.

The expo is an all-day event that each year includes a keynote address from an accomplished UTEP scholar.

The expo is also a competition, where prizes go to top presentations. This unique element encourages the critical component of mentorship, as faculty serve as both judges, as they evaluate student presentations, and as mentors, as they offer students important feedback about their work and presentation style.

The winners from the Nov. 11 event are as follows:

Oral Presentation:

1st place – Pamela Lara (Physics)

2nd place – Pablo Rangel (Electrical & Computer Engineering)

3rd place – Lori Whitaker (Rhetoric & Writing)

Poster Presentation:

1st place – Amelie Muzza (Speech, Language Pathology)

2nd place – Alberto Soto (Electrical & Computer Engineering)

3rd place – Janelly Villalobos (Environmental Science)
