The UTEP men’s basketball team will join Boise State, College of Charleston, Mississippi State, UCF, Villanova, Wake Forest and Western Michigan in the 2016 Gildan Charleston Classic. The tournament field was announced on Thursday.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to play in such a prestigious tournament,” UTEP coach Tim Floyd said. “The level of competition will give us an early indication of who we are as a basketball team. We have had a great experience participating in these ESPN tournaments the last few years and are looking forward to doing so again.”
The tournament will be played Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 17, 18 and 20, at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Villanova is ranked no. 11 in the latest Associated Press poll and earned a no. 1 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Boise State was seeded no. 11 in the 2015 NCAAs. UTEP participated in last year’s NIT, and Western Michigan played in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament.
