UTEP Athletics and Mattress Firm have joined forces to honor retired military in the El Paso community at Miner men’s basketball games.
The “Honor Row” will be coming to the Don Haskins Center when UTEP hosts LA Tech in its Conference USA home opener on Thursday (Jan. 6).
A row of five courtside seats behind the visitor’s bench will be wrapped in blue and orange camouflage to signify the partnership between the Miners and El Paso’s military community. The seats will be purchased by Dan Longoria of Mattress Firm and given away to retired military currently living in the Sun City. These retired military members sitting in the “Honor Row” will also be recognized at each men’s basketball home game in 2022.
“We would like to thank Mattress Firm for partnering with UTEP Athletics, and we are excited about introducing the ‘Honor Row’ at our men’s basketball games,” UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. “This will be a really neat way to honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces that have sacrificed so much for all of us.”
The “Honor Row” is a part of Mattress Firm’s new commitment to the Miners as the presenting sponsor of UTEP Men’s Basketball, and supports their desire to honor local military members by treating them to the best available seats in the Don Haskins Center.
“Mattress Firm is a strong supporter of the military and we are proud to have our business located in El Paso, where so many retired military who served this country over the years are living,” Longoria said. “I hope the Honor Row concept can be just a small way of serving those military members who have served us.”
