UTEP Men’s Golf Catapults Five Spots on Day Two, Sits Tied for Fifth

Texarkana, Ark. – The UTEP men’s golf team jumped five spots on day two of the Conference USA Championships with an four-over par 292; the round of 292 was the second best of the day next to Middle Tennessee’s 289. The Miners are now only three strokes outside of the coveted fourth-place position.

No. 38 UAB leads the field by six strokes at with a three-over par 579. LA Tech and Middle Tennessee are tied for second place at nine-over par (585). North Texas is in fourth place at 15-over par (591) and UTSA and UTEP are tied for fifth at 18-over par (594). After the final 18 holes tomorrow, the top four teams will advance to a match play format on Wednesday.

Trendsetter Frederik Dreier leads the way for UTEP at two-over par (73-73-146) and he is tied for ninth. Dreier has the sixth most birdies in the tournament through 36 holes with seven. His second round consisted of three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys.

Sophomore Nicklas Pihl had the round of the day for the Miners with a two-under par 70. The score was one of only four rounds to be under par on day two. His round of three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey catapulted himself 30 spots into a tie for 30th (81-70-151).

Charlie Corner is tied for 26th at six-over par (76-74-150). His second round of two-over par bumped him up nine spots.

Andreas Sorenson is tied for 30th at seven-over par (72-79-151) and Ben Getman sits tied for 61st at 17-over par (86-75-161).

The third and final round will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. (MT) with results being provided at golfstat.com
