UTEP Men’s Golf Finishes Tied 10th at NIT in Tucson

TUCSON – The UTEP men’s golf team (290-285-292—867) finished tied for 10th place at the National Invitational Tournament at the OMNI Tucson National Resort on Catalina Golf Course (par 72/7,200 yards) Tuesday afternoon.

Aaron Terrazas (71-68-72—211) placed tied for 19th at 5-under par, while Eduardo Gonzalez (73-76-71—220) shot 1-under par in the third round, surged up 12 spots and tied for 55th.

No. 4-ranked Arizona State (280-263-271—814) ran away from the rest of the field and claimed the tournament title at 50-under par. No. 7 USC (279-270-286—835) placed second at 29-under par and no. 5 Oklahoma (280-276-280—836) finished in third place at 28-under par. San Diego (299-305-294—898) finished last at 34-over par. Washington State (285-289-293—867) and North Texas (284-297-286—867) tied with UTEP at 3-over par.

Arizona State’s no. 50-ranked Alex del Rey (69-64-66—199) played consistently throughout the two-day event and won the player championship at 17-under par. No. 3 Justin Suh (66-64-70—200) of USC placed second at 16-under par, while del Rey’s teammate Won Jun Lee (70-66-65—201) finished in third at 15-udner par.

The Miners will compete in two more spring tournaments before postseason play. The first is the Bearkat Invitational at Walden Lake Conroe Golf Club April 1-2 hosted by Sam Houston State. The final regular-season event will be at the Western Collegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif., at Pasatiempo Golf Club April 15-17 hosted by San Jose State.

The Conference USA Championships will be held in Texarkana, Arkansas, at Texarkana Country Club April 22-25.
