UTEP Men’s Golf in 12th After One Round at the Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UTEP men’s golf team shot a 377 after first-round action at the prestigious 73rd Western Intercollegiate presented by Topgolf at historic Pasatiempo Golf Club (par 70/6,615 yards).

The Miners (+27) rank 12th after competing in rainy and cool conditions Monday afternoon.

The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event counts the low five of six scores after each round. Second-round action will continue Tuesday morning with live coverage on the GOLF Channel starting at 5 p.m. MT/7 ET. The tournament is also being streamed online during the next two rounds.

Host school San Jose State (346, -4) is on the top the team leaderboard, while no. 6 USC (-2) and no. 39 Oregon (-2) are tied for second place. USC’s no. 4 Justin Suh (-6), San Jose State’s Sean Yu (-6) and Stanford’s no. 68 Isaiah Salinda (-6) are in a three-way tie for first place.

Oskar Ambrosius leads the Miners at even par (70) and ranks tied for 14th after 18 holes. Aaron Terrazas shot 2-over par 72 to rank tied for 31st, while Settavut Paradee (76) is tied for 63rd and Ben Getman (78) is tied for 74th place. Eduardo Gonzalez (81) and Cole Donielson (81) each are tied for 82nd.

Ambrosius, despite tallying a pair of bogeys on the front nine, penciled in an eagle at hole no. 9 (par 5) to get back to even par. The sophomore bogeyed holes 10 and 12, but birdied holes 11 and 15 on the back nine.

Terrazas struggled a bit on the front nine, bogeying a trio of holes and tallying a 3-over par. The senior settled in on the back nine, registering three birdies and two bogeys to record a 1-under par on the back nine.

UTEP, overall, registered 14 birdies and 47 pars.
