UTEP Men’s Golf in Fifth Place at Arizona Intercollegiate
Tucson, Ariz- The UTEP men’s golf team shot rounds of 296 (12-over par) and 250 (eight-over par/round still in progress) to accumulate 546 total strokes. The Miners are in fifth place; Saturday will feature the completion of round two and the final 18 holes. Shotgun start is set for 7:30 a.m. (MT).
#23 Washington (277-233-510/nine-under par), #10 Texas (284-241-525/seven-under par) and #21 California (292-219-521/three-over par) are the top three teams on the leaderboard in the 17-team field.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Sophomore Charlie Corner had the steady hand in round one with a two-over par 73. The Canadian threw in three birdies, 11 pars, three bogeys and a double bogey. Freshman Andreas Sorenson matched Corner’s round of 73 with four birdies, 10 pars, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Ben Getman (two birdies, 12 pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys) and Frederik Dreier (three birdies, nine pars, five bogeys and a double bogey) both shot 75s. Jose Romero rounded out scoring in the first round with a seven-over par 78.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Round two was halted due to darkness; all of UTEP’s golfers have two or three holes remaining in their round. Andreas Sorenson (t16th/73-60-133/three-over par) and Romero (t43rd/78-63-141/eight-over par) both sit at one-over par for the round.
Getman (t35th/75-66-14/seven-over par) and Corner (t23rd/73-61-134/five-over par) are settled in at three-over par. Junior Frederik Dreier (t51st/75-64-139/nine-over par) will look to get back on track tomorrow.
