The UTEP men’s golf team will hit the links for the second time this fall when it competes at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate from Friday through Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.
The tournament will be played at the University of New Mexico Championship South Course, which is 7556 yards and is a par 72.
The field consists of 17 teams, including 12th-ranked UNLV in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll. Washington, San Diego State, Colorado and BYU are also receiving votes. Rounding out the participants will be Arizona, CSU Fullerton, Colorado State, Denver, LA Tech, host New Mexico, NM State, San Diego, UT Arlington the Miners and Washington State.
The Tucker will consist of three rounds, with two being played on Friday and one on Saturday. Friday’s rounds will commence with a shotgun start and will be continuous while the final round’s pairings will be based on the first day’s scores. They will also go off with a shotgun start, with the teams hitting the course at 7:45 a.m. MT both days.
Competing for the Miners will be Charles Corner, Prescott Mann, Settavut Paradee, Nicklas Pihl and Chad Ahn. Corner and Pihl are the lone returners from last year’s Intercollegiate, where Corner finished in a tie for 48th after an 11-over 227 (69-80-78) performance and Pihl ended in 71st after shooting 16-over 232 (72-78-82).
UTEP is coming off a solid showing at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in which all the Miners placed in the top-50 of the field to help the team finish in sixth place. Mann and Paradee paced the Orange and Blue by sharing 13th place after firing a tournament total of 212.
Corner secured 21st place in the season-opening event after shooting a three-round total of 214. Pihl finished in a tie for 40th place with a score of 218 while Terrazas came in a tie for 50th place with a total of 220. Catalan competed as an individual for the Miners, also shooting 220 to share 50th place.
Last year UTEP finished in eighth place at the Tucker. Live stats for this year’s tournament may be accessed here.
