In conjunction with USA Shooting and in celebration of “10.9 day,” the UTEP rifle team will be opening its range to fellow Miner student-athletes, members of the UTEP Athletic Department, students and fans on Monday (Oct.9).
The range will be open from 11 a.m. to 3p.m. for individuals who want to experience the sport first-hand. The event will take place at the UTEP Rifle Range, located in the Military Science Building.
The first 50 participants that take part will receive a UTEP Rifle shirt. Participants will also be entered into a raffle to win a UTEP Rifle Basket. Paydirt Pete will also be there to celebrate the occasion from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“This event means so much to me because it’s a great way for the team to share their passion for rifle with our fans and community,” UTEP head coach Hannah Muegge said. “Our first time hosting the event in 2015, we didn’t know what to expect. I think at the end of the day, we had roughly 125 people come out and participate. We are very excited to able to continue our 10.9 Day tradition.”
This is the third time that UTEP Rifle has held this event to honor “10.9 day,” to bring awareness to the sport where 10.9 is the highest mark on a single shot a shooter can achieve during a match. USA Shooting has declared Oct.9 (10/9) a holiday for rifle teams around the country.
Individuals who are interested in following along the celebration can follow the @uteprifle page on Twitter and Instagram. Participants are also encouraged to take pictures of the event and share on the UTEP Rifle Facebook Page with the #Ten9Day.
