Senior Rachael Schoenrock fired the second-best aggregate (1160) on the range, aided by placing first in the smallbore (577), to lead the way for the UTEP rifle team in its NCAA Qualifier match at home against Nevada Saturday morning.
The Miners (4616) were just 10 points behind the Wolfpack (4639) in smallbore and 13 back in air rifle to account for the smallest aggregate margin (23 points) of the season. It was a fitting conclusion to the campaign and also to the careers of the Orange and Blue’s three seniors (Rachael Schoenrock, Jessica Kinder and Monthserrat Serna).
“Knowing the importance of the NCAA Qualifier match, today’s performance was just what the team needed,” UTEP head coach Hannah Muegge said. “Being able to repeat last weekend’s strong performance at TCU was a great way to wrap up our season.”
Kinder competed exclusively in air rifle, firing the team’s second-best score (585) in the event on the day. The top honor went to freshman Baily Powell, whose readout of 587 was the third-highest tally by any competitor on the range. Powell added 566 in smallbore to wrap up the round at 1153.
Haylee Schoenrock and freshman Abby Monique both registered an aggregate of 1147. Monique shot a 571 in smallbore and 576 in air rifle. Schoenrock used a 567 in smallbore and 580 in air rifle.
Freshman Mara Rouse shot 541 in smallbore and 571 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1112. Maranda Nelson competed only in smallbore, recording a score of 555.
