UTEP Rifle finishes first meet of Fall Season

JACKSONVILLE, Al. – The UTEP Rifle team shot an aggregate 4570 in its loss to Jacksonville State (4636) at the Gamecock Rifle Range on Saturday.

The Miners posted a 2278 in the smallbore and a 2292 in the air rifle.

“We had a strong smallbore day but not our average in air rifle,” said coach Austin Litherland. “Unfortunately, in this sport, each discipline matters.”

Junior Morgahn Warner led UTEP at the range, tied for best in the UTEP lineup for the smallbore (572) and second in the air rifle (577) for an aggregate of 1149. Senior Jonna Warnken finished fourth among all competitors and first for UTEP in the air rifle discipline (580).

Sophomore Samantha Miller placed tenth in the field with an aggregate of 1116 in the first meet of her collegiate career.

“We will hit the range hard these next couple of months to fortify our mental game and improve our technical skills,” Litherland said.

UTEP will host Alaska Fairbanks in its next meet on Nov. 14 to kickoff Patriot Rifle Conference play.
