UTEP Rifle Gears Up for Conference Championships

 The UTEP rifle team will compete this weekend in the Patriot Rifle Conference (PRC) Championships, Feb. 4-5 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Match fire will begin at 9 a.m. MT on Saturday (Feb. 5) and 12 p.m. MT on Sunday (Feb. 5).

Day one will be the smallbore discipline and will be shot in the E.F. Horton Rifle Range at the Patty Center. Day two will be the air rifle discipline and will be shot in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium at the Patty Center.

The PRC field includes five of the top 11 teams in the nation, including No. 1 TCU, No. 2 Alaska-Fairbanks, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Air Force, and No. 11 Ohio State.

The Miners have set various individual records during the regular season. Isabella Rios set personal bests in smallbore (570) and aggregate (1142). Jonna Warnken repeated her career-high air rifle score twice this season (591). Recent graduate, Morgahn Warner, fired two personal records – a 590 air rifle score and an 1168 aggregate before concluding her UTEP career in the fall 

As a team, UTEP has surpassed an aggregate of 4600 in back-to-back matches to conclude the fall slate. The Miners registered all-around season-highs against Nebraska: 2283 smallbore, 2330 air rifle, and 4613 aggregate.

Last Match Recap 
The UTEP Rifle team shot an aggregate of 4541 behind No. 1 TCU (4742) at the UTEP Rifle Range. The Miners posted a 2248 in smallbore and a 2293 in air rifle. Jonna Warnken led the team with an aggregate of 1158 while Isabel Brooks followed with 1138. Warnken matched her career-high 591 air rifle score for the second time this season.
